I needed a long reach stapler for booklets and magazine format documents that needed center staples (11×17 flat, staple centerline, fold to 8-1/2×11), for low volume intermittent use. Checked many of the low-cost “heavy duty” long-reach staplers (Bostitch, Office Depot, Staples, etc) but all looked flimsy and lightly constructed; most had mediocre reviews listing poor reliability and performance. I have had a Swingline standard stapler forever (the Office Space model) and so decided on this model. I was pleased to find it was built solid and heavy (like the standard model) and performed well, with no jams or problems, even when stapling 40 sheets (it is rated for 25) with standard staples. Two items to note: 1) the stapler head tends to bounce when released, but as it is a long reach stapler with an extension bar I would expect it to be a bit springy – I just stop it with my hand before loading the next booklet, and 2) It does not staple well when the head is above the papers (rest position) and smacked down so it hits the paper in motion – instead, I press the head down until it contacts the papers, then push hard with the heel of my palm in a quick, firm action. This method ensures the head is steady when pushing the staple through the paper, instead of possibly moving slightly sideways if the pressure is not exactly vertically down. One other positive feature: unlike the other staplers where reviewers noted the paper depth stop did not stay in position, this stop has not moved after setting (8-1/2″ depth) since I started using it. The friction of the stop is sufficient to hold it in place against reasonable pressure, although I do not slam the papers against the stop as I try to keep them aligned before stapling. In summary, the perfect stapler for my needs, at a reasonable price!
