This mandrel is really nice because the tailstock slides over it to fully stabilize the mandrel, and only leave the required length exposed while turning. The cheaper versions of mandrels use a pinpoint tailstock that just sits on the end of the mandrel, and does not really provide strong stability.I’ve now made about 20 pens on this mandrel and it’s doing great. Straight, sturdy, and well balanced. No problems!
